Happy New Year, my Laissez Flair family! This year one of my resolutions is to minimize in all aspects of my life by removing any clutter that’s keeping me bogged down-this includes clothing, people, social obligations, and everything in between. Ironically my first step toward minimalism was purchasing this book but it was necessary for this venture. Upon reading it I discovered that this lifestyle is not simply about getting rid of everything so you’re stuck with a drab wardrobe, eating saltines, and never interacting with society. Rather, it is a conscious effort to align your spending (both time and money) with what you truly value. For me I took a hard look at what I appreciate in life and traveling and my overall health were at the top of this list. However, my actions did not coincide with these priorities. Instead of saving up for a vacation, I’d buy shoes I didn’t need and instead of going to Zumba, I’d go to happy hour. I’ve learned that it’s impossible to do and have everything so you must be discerning about what is truly important to you and ensure your everyday habits align with that. Now this is not to say that I will not indulge in a sale here or there but I am going to try to focus my efforts on what my soul truly craves.
